Even if Lam takes this step, it will not actually help alleviate the situation in Hong Kong. This is because the opposition’s fundamental goal is not its so-called demands, but to create prolonged chaos in Hong Kong.

The “anti-extradition movement,” which began in March, has lasted for seven months. It’s understandable that the Carrie Lam government is in a state of panic. However, the government is getting bogged down in details and engaging in futile efforts. Naturally, this cannot absolve herself and the Hong Kong SAR government she leads.

Anyone (including the Carrie Lam administration) who views the “anti-extradition movement” that began in March of this year (2019) as a special case is mistaken.
